The Sociocultural Aspects of Successful Language Learning

2. What does research say about language and language learning? In addition to foreign language learners and educators, scholars from many disciplines such as linguistics, psychology, anthropology and etc. have been interested in and contributed to the field of foreign language acquisition. Let us start with some general review of the relevant issues and then devote the major part of our time to the focus of today’s talk: the sociocultural aspects of learning a foreign language. Most of the specific examples will be given in Chinese or English but the general principles will be applicable to language learning in general.
